Khem Strongarm was born under a dark moon as the saying goes. Born on the exact date as his clan’s greatest warrior Khem Tzarum, he has worked hard to make a name for himself. For nearly three decades Khem as listened to his father bemoan the gods for troubling him with a religious zealot and not a good hardy fighter like his son’s name sake. At the age of sixteen, Khem was taken to the blacksmith to begin his apprenticeship. It would not last long. On the third day, as Khem was on his way back from fetching wood on the surface when he met several humans. He greeted them in the then unfamiliar trading tongue common. They seemed to be upset with the clan regarding some trade arrangements. The little that the young dwarf understood revealed that the men were extremely angry about being “cheated”. Khem spoke commonly trying to convey that he did not completely understand and that he would get an elder. Thinking that the dwarf was ignoring there complaints the men struck out with their crude weapons. Khem was struck along the side of the head. He heard the familiar battle cry of his people as he feel unconscious. He had a terrible dream in which he came face to face with an exarch of Erathis. The exarch spoke in a strange language that he understood even worse then common, but when he awoke he was filled with a sense of purpose. Unfortunately, his father was shame faced about his sons lack of “metal”. It was not long before his studies into the mysteries of the gods and the fact that he ignored his duties of his apprenticeship landed him in the lower mines in the capacity of debris carter. Khem dealt with it all stoically and continued his studies in his spare time which was growing less and less. Fianlly, near his 27th birthday tired of his father’s grumblings Khem went to see the cleric of Moradin. It was a three day trip from the mines to the High Thane’s fortress. When he arrived and gave his name to the guards they sneered as they opened the gates. Laughter followed him through the gates of the fortress and all the way to the clerics quarters. The trip proved worth while though when Khem learned he was an Invoker, one of the chosen of Erathis. Khem shed his armor and returned to his home in the robes of his profession. His father laughed at his son’s new “dress”. There were harsh words spoken on both sides. Khem departed that night and has given little thought to his early life. Having just sat down to a hearty meal and a glass of ale, he met some young travelers. He was just getting down to showing them how a dwarf could drink when they were rudely interrupted by the foul society destroying goblins.
